Founded by a former cabbie and his partners in 1957, Silver Heights Restaurant might be Winnepeg’s first sports bar—and it’s got the memorabilia to prove it. Photos of athletic heroes line the walls of the lounge, where ten LCD TV’s and one 100-inch screen keep patrons apprised of the latest sports scores. When not cheering on a game, visitors can wield a cue at a billiard tables or hone a killer rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game” at the karaoke machine on Wednesdays. Live entertainment from local bands—including Tuesday-night fixture Curtis Newton—rounds out the week’s roster of events, all of which unfold beneath a neon sign whose retro styling recalls the bar’s origins.
Today managed by the founder’s grandsons, J.C and Tony Siwicki, and his wife, Silver Heights Restaurant also serves prime rib, steak, and other classic comfort food in a sit-down dining area equipped with cloth napkins, framed artwork, and soft lighting. A wine club established in 2002 rounds up members for dinners, tastings, and other wine events, as well as discounts at a local wine market and team sponsorships and loyalty programs keep them involved in the community.
