The chase puts a technological twist on the classic scavenger hunt: event organizers send out a series of challenges using the Urban Goose application, available for iPhone or Android mobile devices.
Teams pick their challenges and must use their smartphones to capture photographic evidence of the creative and exciting tasks. Potential missions include knitting a useful item out of plastic grocery bags or giving a stranger a koala hug. Points are awarded for the completion of each task, and the team that earns the most points overall wins a $300 prize and the designation of microcelebrity. Competitors should bring their mobile devices and clad themselves in orange—the competition’s signature colour—to gain bonus points.
