Yanni could be considered the world’s most popular musical diplomat. Stripping his music of the burden of language, the Greek-born showman’s fiery, pop-infused instrumental compositions and romantic ballads have sold millions and transcended borders across the globe. His mighty melodies have been heard in every Olympic television broadcast since 1988, and his 1994 Live at the Acropolis remains one of the best selling music videos of all time. Throughout the summer, the gregarious tunesmith embarks on a tour to tout his latest studio album, Truth of Touch. Like a New Age Mountain Dew commercial, Yanni and his multinational orchestra will take adult-contemporary music to the extreme in their bounding performance. The frontman attacks his banks of keyboards and pianos as the brass, string, and harp sections propel sonic elegiacs into the audience. A kaleidoscopic light show further illuminates the stage as Yanni and company play brand-new selections mixed with decades worth of classic hits such as the sylvan, flute-tinged “Nightingale.”

To complement Yanni’s melodies, the Centennial Concert Hall lends its history and elegance. More than 2,300 scarlet-red seats rest beneath soft lights that shine down like stars or extraterrestrial eyeballs. At the orchestra level, two murals by artist Tony Tascona flank audiences on both the right and left side, and in the lobby, patrons partake in preshow conversations near a mural by Greta Dale.
